We know that the fox is a pest. Vector of diseases, it regularly decimates the populations of small game, such as hares or partridges. This is why in 2019 and 2020, the prefecture of the Somme signed two decrees authorizing nocturnal fox hunting. This last season authorized the slaughter of 1600 foxes between August 2020 and March 2021.

However, Aspas (Association for the protection of wild animals), which also sports a fox as its logo, and Aves (Acting for living things and wild species) had both attacked the two arrested. They had obtained the suspension, but not the ban. It is now done, since May 27th.

The administrative court of Amiens announced that the prefect of the Somme had made an "inaccurate" application of the Environmental Code. The documents in the file would have revealed that ultimately, the foxes represented "less than 1% of the damage suffered by wildlife".
